How To Grow A Practice To Not Only Withstand But Thrive During A Pandemic
Written by Christoffer Nettelbladt on March 17, 2020
Now for the first time in modern memory, we watch as schools in the US close for longer periods of time as a result of a spreading virus.
The world of sports are taking precautions too.
The NBA season is suspended, the NCAA tournament has been postponed or cancelled.
Travel to mainland Europe was banned for 30 days.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has adviced to plan for the potential negative impact the situation may cause to your financial situation, duo to the temporary closure of businesses, schools and other public facilities or events, and in some cases, quarantines. The mentioned actions are absolutely necessary steps to help reduce exposures, but it may bring financial uncertainty for people who could experience a loss of income due to illness or workplace closures.
As a Therapist and business owner, this can be a worrying situation –
What if my clients are too nervous to show up at the office?
How will this affect their treatment and my income?
However the good news is this, we live in an extraordinary time where traveling to the office isn’t a necessity.
There are several ways to treat clients from the comfort and convenience of their own home by utilizing online / remote sessions (leveraging HIPAA-compliant methods), so called “telemental” sessions.
This enable treatment for the client to continue and your economy to thrive, while the both of you remain completely insulated from the current outbreak or any future issues.
At times like these with increased stress and anxiety, clients need guidance – especially during a pandemic and equally uncertain times. Being able to serve clients in a way contingent with pressing public health situations is of utmost importance.
In addition to the everyday responsibility towards clients the field of therapy also need to operate as a lighthouse during times like this, and embody stability and security, by upholding consistency through service delivery.
You should also be reimbursed fully – there’s not one reason to provide a discount (sliding scale) for your online work.
This is, of course, given that you know how to properly market an online practice and ensure motivated and ready to go, self-pay clients find you.
Without the essential tools and training, clients are sure to find someone else for their online sessions.
The truth of the matter is that, new clients wanting online sessions won’t know you exist – if they can’t find you.
If you’d like to enjoy a practice safe from the threat of pandemics, one that can serve clients online, click here to book a call with a specialist who can show you how.
